Connecticut Conveyance Taxes

The Sellers are responsible at the time of closing to pay a tax to both the State of Connecticut and the local municipality for the conveyance of the property.

The rate of the tax to the State of Connecticut is ½ of one percent (0.5) of the purchase price of the property up to $800,000.00, and 1 percent (0.1) for all amounts over $800,000.00.

The municipalities listed below charge ½ of one percent (0.5) of the purchase price:

  • East Hartford
  • Groton
  • Hamden
  • Hartford
  • Meriden
  • Middletown
  • New Britain
  • New Haven
  • New London
  • Norwalk
  • Norwich
  • Southington
  • Waterbury
  • Windham

The City of Stamford charges 0.35 of the purchase price for their municipal conveyance tax.

All other municipalities in Connecticut charge the rate of ¼ of one percent (0.25) of the purchase price for their conveyance tax.
